Caritas Communities is a non-profit that develops and manages properties in the greater Boston area, providing permanent housing to low-income individuals. The group initially engaged Studio NDP on a test fit study for converting an office building near Norwood’s main street and transit hub to housing for previously homeless veterans. Studio NDP developed plans for the building, which include 20 affordable high efficiency studio units across 4 floors, as well as a ground level community space and meeting rooms for Caritas Communities education programs and caseworkers to operate on site.

The plans include accessibility upgrades in the building, envelope repairs to the existing masonry building, full replacement of all building systems, the introduction of a new light well and basement entry, and a rooftop addition. This project is ongoing and the team is now in Construction Documentation.
